Mary and I have volunteered to teach the high school and junior high kids at church on Wednesday nights, and we start this Wednesday.? Then, on March 9, I’m delivering the sermon on Sunday morning.
Now the sermon isn’t any problem–the lectionary text for that week is Ezekiel 37, a text that I’ve always wanted to preach.? I’ve already got some notes going on how I’m going to deliver it, and since the last time I filled pulpit was June 2007 at Bogart Christian, it’ll be nice to exercise that skill set again.
The Wednesday night class presents its own challenges, largely because it’s a blank slate.? The former teacher thought of herself decidedly as an interim to hold down the fort until a new teacher stepped up, and for that reason she left Mary and me no direction.? Mary and I have talked about where we’d like to go, what our general methodology is going to be, and such, but as it stands we’re up to teach this Wednesday and don’t have anything concrete down yet.? I’ve done my share of teen teaching in churches, and I know what and how I like to teach; the interesting part is going to be blending that with Mary’s approaches and proclivities.
As a side note, thanks to David Grubbs for the Old English literature link that I’ve added to the links section on the left side.? I’ll likely add more English Literature links there as time goes on, but I figure Milton, Shakespeare, and the Anglo-Saxons ain’t a bad start.
